Dr. Kamila Barnes, DNP, RN, FNP -C -- Founder/Owner
Dr. Barnes, is the Founder/Owner of Barnes Health Affiliates, LLC (BHA). She is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) who completed her Masters and Doctorate degrees (DNP) at the University of Rochester, School of Nursing. She also graduated from Binghamton University with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing and minor in Spanish. She is a clinician, professor, mentor, and community leader. She is also an active community volunteer in her nursing organizations as the Former 2nd VP (and Founding Board Member) of Greater New York City- Black Nurses Association, Inc. and Immediate Past President of Theta Chi Chapter, Inc. of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc.
Dr. Barnes is the Chair of the National Black Maternal Health Taskforce of the National Black Nurses Association, Inc.
After receiving requests to speak at events, conduct trainings, provide consultation, and facilitate health workshops, Dr. Barnes decided to take her career to the next level and form BHA, LLC.

Dr. Yvette Conyers, DNP, MSN, RN, FNP-C, CTN-B
Dr. Conyers is an Assistant Professor of Community Health nursing at St. John Fisher, Wegmans School of Nursing and a nationally certified Family Nurse Practitioner completing in home risk assessments in the community.
As previous Co-Director of the accelerated bachelors nursing program at the University of Rochester, School of Nursing, she helped shaped academic programs that consistently attracted underrepresented students in quantities far above the national average. Her work focused on reviewing curriculum on providing culturally sensitive care for all patients, regardless of their background, income, religion, age, and sexual orientation. This dovetailed with Conyers’ own research interest, which focuses on developing cultural competency in health care providers in order to ensure the equitable treatment of all patients.
A well-respected educator who is an active and committed leader on issues relating to race, diversity, and inclusion, Conyers is particularly dedicated to creating and expanding access and opportunities for members of underrepresented groups. She has been instrumental in launching the Rochester chapter of the National Black Nurses Association. Their aim is to create additional opportunities for students and licensed nurses from various backgrounds to come together for a common goal: to impact the community of color and address health care disparities.
Professionally, she has worked as a nurse and nurse practitioner for a number of community organizations, including Jordan Health, Hillside Family of Agencies, Highland Hospital. She previously served as nursing director for Home Care of Rochester’s (HCR) African American Initiative, where she became a certified transcultural nurse. In recognition of her leadership and community work preventing hospitalizations among older adult African Americans, Dr. Conyers received the Greater Rochester 40 under 40 African American Leaders award in 2011. She also received the 2019 Health Care Achievement Award from the Rochester Business Journal.
Outside of the academic setting, Conyers is a member of local and national organizations including the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Sigma Theta Tau, Common Grounds Health and the Transcultural Nursing Society. She is the current President of the Rochester Black Nurses Association Chapter.
